Greenbrier Knights Falls To Virginia Beach Valor

Greenbrier Knights could not keep pace with Virginia Beach Valor 4-1 on Tuesday at First Colonial High School.

Virginia Beach Valor opened the scoring in the first after Aidan Cunningham induced Wes Stubbe to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Hayden Jones singled, which helped Greenbrier Knights tie the game at one in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Virginia Beach Valor broke up the tie when one run scored on another play. Then a single by Nic Ventrice followed to extend the lead to 4-1.

Dylan Blazer earned the win for Virginia Beach Valor. The pitcher gave up three hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Childers Winn took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. The hurler went two innings, allowing three runs on one hit, striking out two and walking four.

Cunningham started the game for Greenbrier Knights. The pitcher allowed one hit and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking two. Tommy Blackmon started the game for Virginia Beach Valor. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two.

Jones led Greenbrier Knights with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Addison Way, Warren Bailey, Ryan Hummel, Jack Warrington, and Jones each collected one hit for Greenbrier Knights.

Ventrice led Virginia Beach Valor with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Colin Kin, Ventrice, Mecca Hicks, Konner Johnson, and Trevor Selph each collected one hit for Virginia Beach Valor. Mason Nance led Virginia Beach Valor with three walks.

Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game. Virginia Beach Valor ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. Virginia Beach Valor turned one double play in the game. Virginia Beach Valor were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Stubbe had the most chances in the field with nine.
