Greenbrier Knights Make Comeback Attempt, But Fall To Coastal Cockatoos

Despite a 5-run deficit in the second inning, Greenbrier Knights almost came all the way back, eventually falling 9-8 to Coastal Cockatoos on Saturday at AZALEA. Greenbrier Knights closed the gap by scoring on a double, a sacrifice bunt, a double, a dropped third strike, a single, and a dropped third strike.

Greenbrier Knights collected nine hits and Coastal Cockatoos had 10 in the high-scoring affair.

Coastal Cockatoos got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jaycob Flores doubled, scoring one run, Brady Williams singled, scoring one run, and Noah Monroe singled, scoring two runs.

Coastal Cockatoos added one run in the second after Williams singled to center field.

Greenbrier Knights flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jack Pszczola that drove in two.

Coastal Cockatoos jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Flores singled down the right field line, and Williams grounded out, each scoring one run.

Coastal Cockatoos dropped a third strike, which helped Greenbrier Knights tie the game at eight in the top of the seventh.

Benjamin Krause earned the win for Coastal Cockatoos. The hurler allowed four hits and four runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Danny Padilla pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Greenbrier Knights. The reliever surrendered three hits and two runs while, striking out one and walking four. Dylan Wood took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit, striking out none and walking two. Bryce Burchette stepped on the mound first for Greenbrier Knights. The starter gave up six hits and five runs over two innings, striking out one and walking five.

Greenbrier Knights amassed nine hits in the game. Kai Patton and Joseph Petry each collected two hits for Greenbrier Knights. Patton and Pszczola each drove in two runs for Greenbrier Knights. Nolan Williford stole two bases. Greenbrier Knights stole six bases in the game. Greenbrier Knights turned two double plays in the game.

Coastal Cockatoos piled up 10 hits in the game. FloresMonroeBrady Donovan, and Williams each collected two hits for Coastal Cockatoos. Monroe and Williams each drove in three runs for Coastal Cockatoos. Ayden Farris paced Coastal Cockatoos with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying 12 walks for the game. Andrew Griffin stole two bases. Coastal Cockatoos stole five bases in the game.
