Strong Hitting Not Enough As Greenbrier Knights Falls To Spartans
Even though Greenbrier Knights collected seven hits to Spartans’s three, they still fell 3-2 on Tuesday at WAR MEMORIAL. Aidan Feather, Cordaro Williams, CT Thompson, Tucker Rupe, Hayden Jones, Josh Henkel, and Reid Vandergrift each collected one hit for Greenbrier Knights.
Greenbrier Knights was right in it until Spartans singled in the fifth inning.
Greenbrier Knights were the first to get on the board in the third when Jones singled, scoring one run.
Spartans took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fifth thanks to singles by Cayden Roberts, and Connor Mcconnely.
Roberts earned the win for Spartans. The reliever surrendered two hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Jason Miller pitched three innings in relief for Greenbrier Knights. The lefty gave up two hits and zero runs while, striking out six and walking none. Kai Patton started on the mound for Greenbrier Knights. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Devin Romero opened the game for Spartans. The starter allowed three hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Jackson Defratias earned the save.
Williams and Jones each drove in one run for Greenbrier Knights.
Roberts led Spartans with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Noah Woods, Roberts, and Mcconnely each collected one hit for Spartans. Woods stole two bases. Spartans worked the count all day, piling up six walks. Spartans ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Spartans didn’t commit a single error in the field. Mcconnely had the most chances in the field with seven.
