Greenbrier Knights Fall After Strong Showing By Tri City Chili Peppers

Greenbrier Knights had trouble keeping up with Tri City Chili Peppers in a 17-1 loss on Saturday at Shepherd Stadium.

An error put Greenbrier Knights on the board in the top of the first.

Tri City Chili Peppers captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first after Dean doubled down the right field line, and Thompson homered to center field, each scoring two runs.

Tri City Chili Peppers scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Kokolis doubled, scoring two runs, Ellenburg singled, scoring one run, Dean singled, scoring one run, and Thompson homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Tri City Chili Peppers scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hartman scored after tagging up, Mauzy singled, scoring one run, Ellenburg doubled, scoring two runs, and Thompson singled, scoring two runs.

Pellegrom earned the win for Tri City Chili Peppers. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking three. Luke Warner took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. The starter went one and one-third innings, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

Number eight hitter, Aidan Feather, showed the depth of Greenbrier Knights’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Greenbrier Knights turned one double play in the game.

Tri City Chili Peppers piled up 13 hits in the game. Thompson led Tri City Chili Peppers with seven runs batted in. The third baseman went 3-for-4 on the day. Ellenburg, Mauzy, and Dean each collected multiple hits for Tri City Chili Peppers. Hartman led Tri City Chili Peppers with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Ranson stole two bases.
