Despite a 4-run deficit in the third inning, Greenbrier Knights almost came all the way back, eventually falling 6-5 to Virginia Blasters on Tuesday at War Memorial Stadium. Greenbrier Knights closed the gap by scoring on a single, a double, a fly out, and a single.
A double by Kablach put Virginia Blasters on the board in the top of the first.
Nolan Williford flew out, which helped Greenbrier Knights tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
A single by Franny gave Virginia Blasters the lead, 3-1, in the top of the second.
Virginia Blasters added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Coop flew out, and Dobrinsky singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.
Bonney earned the win for Virginia Blasters. The starter gave up three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Jason Miller pitched three innings in relief for Greenbrier Knights. The reliever allowed four hits and one run while, striking out none and walking one. Joseph Petry took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. The right-handed pitcher went two innings, surrendering five runs on four hits, striking out one and walking four.
Kai Patton and Josh Henkel each collected two hits for Greenbrier Knights. Patton, Cordaro Williams, Williford, and Henkel each drove in one run for Greenbrier Knights. Greenbrier Knights turned one double play in the game. Greenbrier Knights were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. CT Thompson made the most plays with six.
Gillespie and Kablach were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Virginia Blasters. Franny went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Jensen paced Virginia Blasters with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Gillespie stole two bases. Virginia Blasters stole six bases in the game. Virginia Blasters turned one double play in the game. Virginia Blasters didn’t commit a single error in the field. Dugan had the most chances in the field with seven.
